I have had three disks removed and still suffer pain in my lower back that “shoots” down both legs. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has home remedies that they have tried that work. Thanks.

Your medical specialist may have told you there is a 50/50 chance that they can help you with surgery. What usually happens after multiple surgeries is a condition called arachnoiditis. This is a very painful condition which happens quite frequently after failed back surgery syndrome. This is where scar tissue or adhesions wrap around the nerves and cause pain. I have found that from my experience of treating these type of conditions for over 20 years is that the best treatment is to start on a good liver detoxification program for 3 weeks. During this time implement a anti-inflammatory diet, no meat dairy or shellfish. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Class IV laser therapy is also great for helping adhesions. You may also want to try other conservative approaches such as Chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and PT.”

My physical therapist says my back pain is due in part to different leg sizes. She says I should correct by permanently wearing a gel rise in shoe of shorter leg. Does this make any sense (diagnosis and remedy?) I have been alternatively diagnosed with pelvic imbalance and sciatica

You do have a pelvic imbalance which is causing one leg to be shorter. Simply putting a lift in the shoe will just mask the problem. Your pelvis needs to be realigned by a Chiropractic Physician. Then stabilization exercises should begin to strengthen the area. If you have had past injury to that leg, or some type of bone disease, then a lift would be in order. Dr. Gary Gendron www.DrGendron.com.
