<p>The uppercut shot in boxing and martial arts involves (as I understand it) a blow to the chin with upward force which throws the head back and causes the motion of the jaw to also cause impact in the back of the head. The head is thrown back, and may rebound back onto the chest. Can this be classed as whiplash?
No because the blow from a uppercut forces the head backwards and the force from whiplash causes the head to move forwards.
This forward motion damages the muscles in the neck resulting in whiplash.

<p>I was in an accident in October. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with whiplash. For probably the last 2 weeks, I have been experiencing a stiff neck and some shoulder pain when I wake up in the morning. I’ve also been waking up with a headache every day. I suffer from migraines and other headaches as well – so it might not be that unusual for me to have headaches. I plan on settling soon with the insurance company. Is this something worth looking into? or because it has been so long, is this pain likely being caused by something else?
Normally whiplash will settle down within one month of the accident. What happens is your neck is thrown forward and then thrown back, straining all the muscles, so a sore dose. However and this is what I would have done, go for a MRI, before you settle the claim, just to make sure all the Discs are intact and you have not damaged one, two or three. Good Luck
